Vixen

at midnight’s hinge

a fox scream swung the woods ajar

on my suburban dream

drawing me back to the path

where we froze

in one another’s stare

eyeshine encircled

by the gnarled grip of branches

leaf scuttle   then a cloud

clearing past the moon

guiding lunatic light

touching our nature

the vixen’s bark

ripened and released

like an egg carried

and dropped from the teeth
